Greco EG 380S – 1976 – Fujigen Gakki

Last Modified : Saturday, June 18, 2022

In this article, I will be presenting the guitar that marked the beginning of my passion for vintage Made in Japan guitars. This is a 1976 Greco made by Fujigen. Before buying it, I was interested in Japanese guitars from the 70s. My research led me to the guitars with Maxon U-1000 pickups, the same as Maxon Super 70, because I like the tone of this particular pickup. To be honest, I think that all Maxon pickups sound good to me and I knew that the U-1000 humbucker would bring me what I was looking for.

GRECO EG 380S

Eventually, I found online this Greco EG 380S (copy of the Les Paul Standard) in an apparently very correct state. In the series of copies of Gibson Les Paul from Greco on the 1976 catalog, the EG 380S is one of the cheapest models. At the time, it cost 38,000 yen. However, even if it is a low-end guitar from Greco, this guitar is really good.

You’ll find below the specs and pics of my EG 380S 1976 and recordings of the guitar that I made by capturing the sound of my EVH 5150 LBX 15W amp with a SM57 Shure mic.

  1. Great example! I am looking very hard for any Greco with a July 1976 serial number for my birth month / year. Its fun just to see other great examples from that time frame.
