I recently retired and began playing guitar again after many years. I’m a fan of MIJ instruments and still have the first acoustic guitar I ever bought, which turns out to be an Ibanez lawsuit era copy of a Guild D50 that I bought new in 1973. I recently bought an electric guitar that I found in a local shop here in New Jersey but was not familiar with the brand name until I did some research. The guitar is branded as a DJArgus and is an Excel AEX model, which is essentially a hybrid D’Angelico New Yorker/Excel (it has all the features of a New Yorker except for its 17-inch rather than the 18-inch bout that is typical of a D’Angelico New Yorker). I now know that the guitar was designed in the 1980s by Argus guitars and manurfactured by Vestax. It was distributed in the U.S. by Rudy Pensa, the owner of the legendary New York music store Rudy’s Music and the namesake of the Pensa guitar brand. I have pics if you’re interested to see them.
